Title

AMENDING THE MCRA FY 2024-2025 BUDGET BY TRANSFERRING $250,000 FROM THE “CIP-PROJECTS CONTINGENCY” ACCOUNT TO THE “CIP-PROJECTS (MEDIAN ENHANCEMENTS)” ACCOUNT FOR EXPENDITURES ASSOCIATED WITH THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF ENTRYWAY AND MEDIAN ENHANCEMENTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS WITHIN THE MCRA REDEVELOPMENT AREA

Body

BACKGROUND:                                           The Metropolitan Planning Organizaton (MPO) and Broward County have plans to implement several mobility projects within the MCRA boundary that might not include landscape upgrades or enhancements.  It is proposed to engage one of the MCRA’s engineering and architectural consulting firms to analyze and design entryway and median improvements that could be incorporated into these MPO/County projects while they are under construction as well as other medians in need of improvements to be undertaken by the MCRA.  The enhancements may include landscaping, sod replacement, electric, irrigation and signage.

The following areas have been identified for consideration:

Southgate Boulevard east from Rock Island to the third median

SW 11th Street and US 441 (east of US 441) including a neighborhood sign

SW 6th Street and US 441 to the second median including a neighborhood sign

Coral Gate Boulevard and US 441 (2 medians east of US 441) including a neighborhood sign

                     Others to be determined

It is estimated the cost for the preparation of design plans for entryways and median improvements would be $50,000 per project on average.  The larger areas may be more; however, the smaller areas may be in the range of $25,000 to $30,000 per project.

The CRA Redevelopment Plan addresses such median enhancements under Part 2|Current Trends and Planned Activities, Public Realm Improvements and Maintenance in two sections:

Wayfinding - The CRA will complete the design and installation of the wayfinding signage system as a way to direct visitors to City Center and other points of interest within the CRA and City.   This project will provide a comprehensive signage program with a consistent design that will help to enhance the City’s image and identity, especially within the community redevelopment area.”

Landscape & Beautification Enhancements - The CRA will invest in the landscaping and beautification of travel corridors as needed and appropriate, particularly in highly visible gateway areas.”

RECOMMENDATION:                     For review and approval

FISCAL IMPACT:                     $250,000 from the CIP-Projects Contingency (A/C #340-0510-512-91-02) to CIP-Projects (Median Enhancements) (A/C # 340-0510-512.65-90).
