Title

APPOINTMENT TO THE BROWARD MPO CITIZENS’ ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Body

BACKGROUND:                     The MPO’s Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) is made up of members of the public who are interested in becoming involved in the transportation planning process. These individuals review proposed transportation plans, programs, and projects to examine the potential impacts they could have on their communities. These members advise and provide the MPO with valuable insight into your local communities by acting as a voice for public opinion relating to general transportation issues. The ideal candidate would be for this role would have an interest in transportation, be available to regularly attend meetings, and would maintain an open line of communication with their appointing MPO Board Member. Many of the items that come before the MPO Board go to the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and CAC first, so it can be beneficial to have a representative on both committees to keep you apprised of relevant issues and to offer feedback/advice from a different perspective.

In addition, the MPO is currently updating one of its most important core products, the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The MTP is the MPO's long-range plan and guides the use of Federal, State, and other funds to create a transportation system that moves people and goods, creates jobs, and strengthens communities within Broward County. In the past, the CAC has played an important role in providing feedback during the development of this Plan so it would be advantageous to have a representative from the County on the Committee during the upcoming 2050 MTP update.

Currently, the CAC seat representing the City of Margate is vacant.  No alternates serve on the CAC.  The CAC typically meets the 4th Wednesday of every month (except July & December) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the MPO Board Room. The next meeting is August 28, 2024.

RECOMMENDATION:                     Appoint one member of the public to serve on the MPO’s Citizens’ Advisory Committee.
