Title
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA, APPROVING VEGA AMERICAS, INC. AS THE SOLE-SOURCE MANUFACTURER AND SUPPLIER OF SPECIALIZED INSTRUMENTATION, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LEVEL, PRESSURE, CONTROL, AND SIGNAL-PROCESSING INSTRUMENTATION FOR THE CITY’S WATER AND WASTEWATER UTILITY SYSTEMS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND: The Department of Environmental and Engineering Services uses specialized instruments to monitor water levels, pressure, pumps, chemical tanks, wells, storage tanks, and other equipment throughout the City’s water and wastewater systems. These instruments help staff operate the systems safely, identify problems, prevent overflows and equipment damage, and maintain reliable water and wastewater services.
City staff reviewed the available technology and determined that VEGA instrumentation best meets the City’s operational needs. VEGA offers non-contact radar sensors that can provide reliable measurements despite foam, condensation, buildup, equipment located inside tanks, and changing weather conditions. These features can reduce maintenance and improve reliability at water and wastewater treatment facilities, wells, storage tanks, chemical systems, and lift stations.
VEGA also offers drinking-water models certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, as well as submersible and hazardous-location models suitable for wastewater facilities and lift stations. Its equipment includes built-in diagnostic, cybersecurity, and communication features that allow the instruments to connect with the City’s computerized monitoring and control system, commonly referred to as SCADA.
Based on its technical review, City staff selected VEGA as the preferred manufacturer because its combination of reliability, safety certifications, diagnostic features, cybersecurity protections, and compatibility with the City’s control systems best meets the City’s requirements.
VEGA Americas, Inc. manufactures the selected instrumentation and is the sole authorized source for VEGA products within the City’s territory.
