Title

RESOLUTION - APPROVING WORKERS’ COMPENSATION WASHOUT SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT WITH TODD KROUPA IN THE AMOUNT OF $80,000 WITHOUT ADMISSION OF COMPENSABILITY.

Body

BACKGROUND:                                           Mr. Kroupa worked for more than 21 years for the Margate Fire Department and retired as a Fire Captain in 2014. In 2002, he sustained an injury on the job.  The above settlement was negotiated with the employee, Risk Manager and Third Party Administrator, and is found to be in the best interest of the City and the retiree.  The settlement is proposed in order to satisfy the known liability and reduce the potential for future liabilities.  Confidential medical information is contained in relevant documentation. For this reason, there are no attachments besides this resolution.  The City of Margate could potentially be responsible for salary, benefits and claim administration costs far exceeding the agreed upon amount if this settlement is not approved by the City Commission. This settlement is presented to the City Commission pursuant to Section 2-38 of the Margate Code of Ordinances.
