Title
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE APPROVAL OF THE CHANGE ORDER TO RESOLUTION NO. 23-094 FOR THE CORAL GATE TANK REHABILITATION PROJECT TO INCLUDE AN ADDITIONAL SCOPE OF WORK AND AN ADDITIONAL AMOUNT OF $145,000.00.
BACKGROUND: The City Council previously approved Resolution No. 23-094 for rehabilitating the Coral Gate water storage tank.
The original Request for Quotations (RFQ) for Bid 2023-014 did not include the additional scope of work due to the operational necessity of keeping the tank full to ensure uninterrupted water supplies, which limited the capacity for a complete assessment of the tank's condition and repair requirements.
During the course of the project, the tank was emptied, allowing city personnel and the contractor to conduct a thorough inspection. This evaluation of the empty tank revealed unanticipated buildup or coatings on the interior walls, as well as a deteriorated internal piping system.
The additional scope of work, intended to fully address these findings, includes the removal of all coating from the interior walls at a cost of $57,000.00, and the replacement of internal piping at a cost of $88,000.00. This scope also involves installing new seals at the concrete walls, making modifications to the ladder and concrete pillars, and securing the new piping. The total cost of the project, including change orders, will amount to $323,790.00, which is still below the amount proposed by the second-highest bidder during the project solicitation.
This comprehensive approach will ensure the complete and effective rehabilitation of the tank, restoring its structural integrity and functional efficacy for the long term.
