COMMUNITY CENTER - PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF FEASIBILITY STUDY BY SPORTS FACILITIES ADVISORY (SFA)
BACKGROUND: The construction of the proposed community center by the CRA will be a significant attraction within the first phase of the City Center redevelopment, and a key to the overall success of the City Center. This community center will provide current and future residents of Margate with an exceptional new facility for recreation, culture and social interaction. It represents a major public investment which must be thoroughly evaluated with respect to both initial capital outlay and ongoing operational expenditures in order to ensure sustainable, long term economic viability.
On May 11, 2016, the CRA Board authorized the consulting firm Sports Facilities Advisory (SFA) to perform a feasibility analysis of the proposed community center. This analysis is focused on the programming and operational considerations that will ultimately determine the physical layout of the facility. SFA was selected by the CRA Board due to their specialization and expertise in the construction and management of recreational facilities throughout the United States.
SFA has substantially completed the evaluation and has developed some programming options within the established budget ($6 million). Prior to finalizing its report, the consultant is seeking input and discussion from the Board with respect to its program recommendations. They will present the preliminary results of the feasibility study at the workshop.
