Title
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 33-POLICE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT; OFFENSES AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS, ARTICLE VI - TRAFFIC CONTROL, SECTION 33-69.50 REGULATING TOWING OF VEHICLES FROM PRIVATE PROPERTY AND SECTION 33-69.52 SUPPLEMENTAL LOCAL REGULATIONS; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION OF TOWING, IMMOBILIZATION, AND VEHICLE STORAGE RATES AS ESTABLISHED BY BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND: Staff recommends adoption of Broward County towing rates, as may be amended from time to time, in order to standardize City rates with those approved and utilized by Broward County.
Staff intends to soon put forth an agenda item to request approval of an extension and amendment to the City’s current towing services agreement. The towing and storage rates associated with that contract have not changed in more than ten years, and therefore, do not reflect current market standards. If these newly proposed towing and storage rates are approved, the anticipated contract extension and amendment with our current towing services provider will also stipulate that the new rates also apply to towing and storage services performed under that agreement. This will ensure that reasonable towing rates, common with those already in place within our geographic area, are established and maintained for City initiated towing services.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve
