OLEAN PRIDGEN, 2021 BROWARD SENIOR HALL OF FAME ELECTEE
BACKGROUND:
Olean Pridgen is an 83 year old Margate Resident. She has served as a Foster Grandparent Program Volunteer for about 5 years and provided about 5,000 hours of service.
She is fondly referred to as "Grandma O", and served at Margate Elementary where she provides tutoring and mentoring to students 4 days a week, 5 hours each day including the summer where she serves at other Broward Public Schools and libraries.
Grandma O works with students one-on-one in the classroom with reading, their vocabulary lists and reading comprehension. Staff at Margate Elementary and North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch Library speak highly of her positive interactions with students and her willingness to help at all times. She also supports her peers in getting resources for their school and individually to maintain self-sufficiency.
