Title
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 6 ANIMALS AND FOWL, SECTION 6-80 - DEFINITIONS AND SECTION 6-88 SALE OR TRANSFER OF DOGS AND CATS OF THE CITY OF MARGATE CODE OF ORDINANCES; PROVIDING FOR LIMITATIONS OF HOBBY BREEDERS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND: This ordinance limits sales of dogs and cats, such that pet stores in the City can no longer sell dogs and cats obtained from hobby breeders. This amendment was requested by the Vice Mayor of Hallandale Beach, Michele Lazarow.
This ordinance also refines the distinction between a hobby breeder and a kennel, such that a hobby breeder allows the breeding or studding of a dog or cat up to once in a consecutive twelve-month period, and a kennel allows the breeding or studding of a dog or cat two or more times in a consecutive twelve-month period.
The effective date of the regulations were clarified by including the specific date of October 2, 2013, rather than referencing the adoption of Ordinance 1500.603.
