Title
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA, APPROVING A RIGHT-OF-WAY CONSENT AGREEMENT WITH FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY (FPL) TO ALLOW THE CITY TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE A SANITARY SEWER LIFT STATION WITHIN FPL’S TRANSMISSION EASEMENT AT THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF MARGATE BOULEVARD AND ROCK ISLAND ROAD.
BACKGROUND:
The City’s Department of Environmental and Engineering Services (DEES) currently owns and operates a sanitary sewer lift station (LS #19) in the landscaped median of Margate Boulevard, immediately east of FPL’s transmission easement. This lift station was constructed circa 1972, to support the development of Paradise Gardens and points west, and has outlived its useful life. It is one of 2 remaining “can stations” with the pumps and electrical controls contained within a confined space vault below grade. The existing station is currently in need of significant repairs or reconstruction, as it is taking on ground water (infiltration). The location of the station between the travel lanes of Margate Boulevard poses a safety risk for our service personnel, which can be eliminated by relocating the station outside of the Margate Boulevard right-of-way and into FPL’s transmission easement, which is owned by the City.
Due to the previously granted easement, the City is required to obtain permission from FPL to use the easement for any excavations or permanent structures. FPL’s vehicle for granting their permission is a consent agreement, which is presented for your consideration.
