ELECTION OF VICE MAYOR
BACKGROUND:
3.07. Mayor and Vice-Mayor.
The City Commission shall, at a Commission meeting in November or as soon as practical thereafter, elect from among its members a Mayor who shall serve for one (1) year. The Mayor, if so elected by the City Commission, may serve another one (1) year in the same office for a total not to exceed two (2) years in succession. The Mayor shall preside at meetings of the Commission and shall be recognized as head of city government for all ceremonial purposes; by the Governor for purposes of military law and civil disaster; for execution of contracts, deeds and other documents as provided for in Article IV, Section 4.10; for service of process; and as the City official designated to represent the city in all agreements with other governmental entities or certifications to other governmental entities, but shall have no administrative duties except as required to carry out the responsibilities herein. The Vice-Mayor shall be chosen in the same manner as the Mayor and may serve up to a total of two (2) successive terms if chosen by the City Commission. The Vice-Mayor shall act as Mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor. Should both the Mayor and Vice-Mayor not be present at a Commission meeting, the member of the Commission with greatest longevity shall preside at the meeting.
