RESOLUTION - APPROVING THE ADDITION OF JUNETEENTH DAY AS A RECOGNIZED HOLIDAY FOR ALL NON-BARGAINED FOR PERSONNEL AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE BARGAINED FOR UNITS; PROVIDING FOR AUTHORITY; PROVIDING FOR EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND: June 19th of each year has been designated by Congress as “Juneteenth National Independence Day” and as “Juneteenth Day” by the State of Florida, to commemorate the traditional observance of the day the slaves were notified of the Emancipation Proclamation. (See Public Law 117-17 “Juneteenth National Independence Day Act” and §683.21 of Florida Statutes.)
This agenda item is for the City Commission to approve including June 19th as a recognized holiday for non-bargained for City employees. Further, it authorizes the City Manager to negotiate with the bargaining units to provide the holiday to bargaining unit members.
RECOMMENDATION: For approval.
FISCAL IMPACT: Holiday bank hours are used throughout the fiscal year and do not carry over to the next fiscal year.
