Title

RESOLUTION - APPROVING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN BROWARD COUNTY, THE CITY OF MARGATE, AND THE MARGATE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY REGARDING THE EXTENSION OF THE SUNSET DATE FOR THE MARGATE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY.

Body

BACKGROUND:                     The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (MCRA) was created in 1996 for a 30-year term. Broward County notified the MCRA that the Agency would sunset on August 13, 2026. Over the course of the past year, the MCRA has had ongoing communications with the County Administrator about the actual sunset date and to request their consideration for an extension of the MCRA. The County has responded that it would only grant the MCRA a 20-year extension on a non-TIF basis for all taxing authorities other than the City of Margate until September 30, 2047.  Further, the TIF obligations of the Taxing Authorities would continue until January 1, 2026.

The Interlocal (ILA) Agreement between Broward County, the City of Margate, and the MCRA is attached for your review.  The ILA outlines the rights and obligations associated with the MCRA’s extension on a non-TIF basis for all taxing authorities other than the City.

RECOMMENDATION:                     Approval

FISCAL IMPACT:                                            Loss of TIF for the CRA from Broward County and the North Broward Hospital District after January 1, 2026.
