Title
APPROVING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE MARGATE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY AND THE CITY OF MARGATE, PROVIDING THAT THE MCRA INTENDS TO UNDERGROUND THE EXISTING OVERHEAD UTIILITY LINES ADJACENT TO THE CITY CENTER DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
BACKGROUND: The Board and Brookfield DA Holdings, LLC, (“Brookfield”) entered into a Development Agreement at the March 11, 2026 MCRA meeting for the development of the City Center Development project. At the September 9, 2026 MCRA meeting the Final Concept Design was presented and approved by the Board which now allows the application process to commence with the City.
As part of that application process, City Code requires compliance with the requirement to bury utilities underground. There is already an existing MCRA capital project underway to underground utilities that runs along the east side of North State Road 7 from the corner of NE Atlantic Boulevard and stops at the NE corner of Cocogate Plaza. This ILA will satisfy Brookfield’s requirements in this regard.
In accordance with the 2017 Margate Community Redevelopment Plan, Part 3 | Section D. Public Facilities and Services, Goal I, Objective 3 reads, “The Agency will endeavor to relocate overhead utility lines underground or to areas outside of immediate visibility in conjunction with new development and redevelopment projects and will incorporate this work into annual budgets and five-year capital plans as appropriate.”
