BACKGROUND: The presentation recognizes Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Rescue as the first fire department in Florida to meet the NFPA Standard 1851 for firefighter gear cleaning and inspection. NFPA Standard 1851 directly relates to cancer prevention and exposure reduction to cancer causing agents that puts firefighters as higher risk for life-threating cancers.
