APPROVING A LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF $195,797 OF SURPLUS FEDERAL FISCAL YEAR 2016-2017 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT-COUNTYWIDE (JAG-C) PROGRAM FUNDS TO BROWARD COUNTY.

BACKGROUND:
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant-Countywide (JAG-C) is a program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and in Florida by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Program funds can be used to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system throughout the County.
In order for Broward County to utilize $195,797 in surplus JAG-C funds from fiscal year 2016-2017, the County must provide FDLE with supporting letters from 51% of the units of government, which also represent at least 51% of the population of the County.
