APPROVING WAIVING OF BIDDING FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN UNTITLED 2013 DEMONSTRATION MODEL SINGLE AXLE KNUCKLEBOOM TRUCK W/CLAMSHELL, FROM MIKE DAVIDSON FORD, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $100,000, PROVIDING FOR FULL EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLE WARRANTIES.

BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works budgeted for the purchase of one (1) Single Axle Knuckleboom Truck with Clamshell in the amount of $175,000. During the process of obtaining pricing from Mike Davidson Ford (awarded vendor on the Florida Sheriff's Association Bid) it was determined that Mike Davidson Ford had a 2013 demonstration truck that was available for sale, at a significantly reduced cost, over a new model. The Department of Public Works pursued the offer and found out that the vehicle in question had never been titled, had approximately 5,000 miles on it, and had the full vehicle and equipment warranties in place. The asking price is $99,999.00 for the demo vehicle. This reflects a saving of over $38,000 versus the cost of a new vehicle on contract. The staff of Public Works has inspected the vehicle, and recommends that the City proceed with the purchase of the demonstration unit. Therefore, based on the above, we are requesting that the Commission waive bidding and authorize the purchase of the demonstration unit, in an amount not to exceed $100,000 from
Mike Davidson Ford.
RECOMMENDATION: Waive bidding and award purchase to Mike Davidson Ford
