Title
REPLACEMENT OF THE BENCHES ON MARGATE BOULEVARD AND NW 58TH AVENUE
Body
BACKGROUND:
The CRA Board requested staff to research replacement benches for Margate Boulevard and NW 58th Avenue. The existing benches are weathered and cannot be refurbished or painted.
Staff looked at numerous catalogues and web sites and selected the attached courtyard style bench as the most appropriate for the streetscape. The frames are powder-coated cast aluminum and the back/seat planks are a high density polyethylene recycled plastic that is UV and graffiti resistant. Attached is a quote and visual for the benches - note that the colors in the photo are not what the final product would be. The recommended color for the frames is Forest Green, which is the best match for the existing light poles and garbage cans. The suggested back/seat color is cedar to match the pavers, but some of the other available color choices for the planks may work as well. The Belson Outdoor Company was the only place we were able to find this particular bench - the cost is comparable to recycled style benches offered by other companies. If the Board would prefer to add a center arm the cost would be approximately $1,000.00 more for all eleven benches.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the purchase of eleven (11) benches for Margate Boulevard/NW 58th Avenue.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding is allocated in 140-0510-512.31-38 - Property Maintenance. The quote provided for the eleven (11) replacement benches (without center arms) is $9,836.10, which includes shipping.
