Title
KAYE STEVENS MEMORIAL AT KAYE STEVENS PARK

Body

BACKGROUND:
In 2014 the MCRA completed improvements to Kaye Stevens Park.  A bronze plaque was installed noting the dedication date for the improvements and the names of the commissioners.  Another small plaque notes the name of the park and the original dedication date (see pictures in back up).  There is no information in the park providing an image of Ms. Stevens or any biographical information.  There has been some discussion at CRA meetings regarding the possibility of installing a statue or other memorial of Ms. Stevens as a more fitting tribute.

Staff contacted several companies that specialize in bronze statues and memorials for quotes on plaques, busts and statues.  A summary of the quotes is included in the back up.  Prices range from under $3,000 for a plaque with a bas relief image; from $5,500 to $27,500 for a sculpted bust; and from $29,000 to $40,000 for a life sized statue.  Note that the prices for the busts and statues do not include the cost of a base or an accompanying plaque.

A representation of a plaque with a bas relief image is included in the back up - this is provided as an example of what the plaque would like.  The actual wording can be revised or expanded if desired to include additional information about Ms. Stevens.

RECOMMENDATION:      Approve the purchase of a bronze plaque with bas relief picture and stand.

FISCAL IMPACT:      The fiscal impact  will depend upon the option chosen--an amendment to the budget will be necessary.
