APPROVING SURPLUS AND DONATION OF THE REPAIRED FALLEN SOLDIER STATUE TO THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 157

BACKGROUND: On April 27, 2015, the Fallen Soldier Statue (also known as the Battlefield Cross) located at Veterans Park was vandalized. Given the damage to the current statue, the City ordered a replacement statue which is to be installed prior to Memorial Day. The Margate Police Department, through an anonymous tip, recovered a severed piece of the statue from a recycling company. A regional welding company graciously offered to donate their time and resources to make the necessary repairs to the statue and return it to the City. This item is to request Commission approval that, once the repair work is complete, to surplus and donate the statue to the American Legion Post 157 in Margate.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve.
