CONSIDERATION OF A SPECIAL EXCEPTION USE, IN ORDER TO PERMIT A DANCE HALL WITH AN OCCUPANCY GREATER THAN 250 PERSONS WITHIN A TOC-C CORRIDOR ZONING DISTRICT, FOR GOLD CHOICE BALLROOM 343, 345, AND 347 S STATE ROAD 7.

Body

BACKGROUND:                     Gold Choice Ballroom opened at 343, 345, and 347 S State Road 7 with a voluntary capacity of 49 persons, as stated on their Occupational License (now called a Local Business Tax Receipt) application dated November 30, 2006.  On August 17, 2011, Gold Choice submitted a new Local Business Tax Receipt application in order to increase the capacity of the ballroom to 332 persons.  Gold Choice appeared before the Margate Development Review Committee on October 20, 2011 with an application for a special exception use.  On February 9, 2012, the applicant executed a Memorandum of Understanding in order to provide for certain safeguards for the business while mandatory life-safety improvements were being made.  Gold Choice applied for a fire sprinkler permit on July 19, 2012, and was able to close the permit this year.  Now the applicant is seeking final approval of the special exception use from the City Commission.

RECOMMENDATION:                     DRC recommended approval on October 20, 2011.
