Title

APPROVING WAIVING OF BIDDING FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO NEW GENERATORS TO REPLACE THE CURRENT INOPERABLE SKYWATCH TOWER GENERATORS FROM THE FIRM OF DON HILLMAN, INC. IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15,900.00.

BACKGROUND:

The Police Department purchased two (2) ICX Sky Watch Frontier tactical platforms in 2010.  These platforms can be used to deter crime by providing a visible police surveillance presence in high traffic areas such as shopping centers, parks, etc.

Each tactical platform now requires refurbishment to replace the onboard generator.    Staff researched sources of supply for the Onan brand of recreational generator needed for this project.  While there are several suppliers of the Onan generator in our area, there is only one authorized provider with both sales and installation within Broward County.  That provider is Don Hillman, Inc. of Fort Lauderdale.

Due to the fact that both towers will need to be transported by means of towing them to the provider’s facility, staff recommends the waiving of bidding and authorization of procuring the generator and installation from Don Hillman, Inc.  This will also be advantageous should follow up services or warranty repairs be required in the future.
