Title

APPROVING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MARGATE AND THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE FOR COOPERATIVE EMERGENCY SERVICES THROUGH AUTOMATIC AID.

Body

BACKGROUND:                     This agreement, similar to the one we have with the City of Coral Springs, will allow for the automatic response to emergencies by both agencies to areas close to our border. This will greatly enhance our response capabilities and our efforts to save lives and protect property.

A previous version on this agreement was approved by the City Commission in July 2015, but North Lauderdale has made a number of revisions which are included in the current version. Following is a summary of those changes:

Provides that nothing in the agreement should be considered a waiver of the cities' Sovereign Immunity as provided by Section 768.28, Florida Statutes.

Provides statutory required terms regarding public records as set forth in Section 119.0701, Florida Statutes.

Provides that notices shall be provided by Certified Mail - Return Receipt Requested - to the City Manager.

Provides for a definite term, renewable by written consent.

RECOMMENDATION:                     Approve.

FISCAL IMPACT:                     Under Article 4.1, the agreement does not require monetary compensation from the parties. Article 4 contains other information about responsibility for costs.
