Title

APPROVING THE AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY FOR TRAFFICWAY BEAUTIFICATION FOR COPANS ROAD FROM STATE ROAD 7 TO HAMMOCKS BOULEVARD.

Body

BACKGROUND:                     This agreement was previously approved by the City Commission on December 9, 2015 (Resolution # 15-142).  However, the County staff has subsequently notified the City that the agreement previously provided to the City was incorrect and requested approval of the attached agreement.

The segment of Copans Road from State Road 7 to Hammocks Boulevard located within the City limits is a Broward County roadway and, as such, Broward County is responsible for the maintenance of the roadway.   This agreement allows the City to install new landscaping and other improvements to beautify the roadway and subsequently take over the maintenance responsibility from the County.

The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) under a separate agreement with the City will be responsible for the proposed improvements and future maintenance of the roadway.

RECOMMENDATION:                     Approve

FISCAL IMPACT:                     CRA Budget (Fund 340) for Proposed Improvements is $350,000.  CRA lawn maintenance contract will be amended to include this additional roadway once improvements are complete.  Once the CRA sunsets, the City will assume responsibility for the maintenance of the roadway in perpetuity.
