APPROVING AN EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT WITH DOUGLAS R. GONZALES AS CITY ATTORNEY OF THE CITY OF MARGATE; PROVIDING FOR APPOINTMENT AS CITY PROSECUTOR.
BACKGROUND: City Attorney, Eugene M. Steinfeld, will be retiring in April 2016 after 38 years of service to the City of Margate. In preparation for his upcoming retirement, the City Commission engaged the services of consultant S. Renée Narloch & Associates, to assist with the search for a new City Attorney. Seventy-one individuals applied for the position of Margate City Attorney. After review of the applications by the City Commission and the City’s Consultant, as well as individual and group candidate interviews by the City Commission, the City Commission agreed to proceed with contract negotiations with Douglas Gonzales. Attached is the proposed contract for consideration by the City Commission.
The attached resolution also provides for the appointment of Douglas Gonzales as City Prosecutor.
RECOMMENDATION: Recommend approval of the employment agreement with Douglas Gonzales as City Attorney. Douglas Gonzales is also recommended to be appointed as City Prosecutor.
FISCAL IMPACT: Annual base salary to be determined by the City Commission; related benefits as enumerated in the Agreement.
