Title

APPROVING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE MARGATE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY AND THE CITY OF MARGATE REGARDING THE BEAUTIFICATION OF COPANS ROAD BETWEEN STATE ROAD 7/US 441 TO HAMMOCKS BOULEVARD.

Body

BACKGROUND:  In December 2014, the Board approved a design for median improvements to Copans Road between SR 7/US 441 and Hammocks Boulevard.  The plans, which include landscaping, irrigation and a glass aggregate hardscape, were finalized and submitted to Broward County for permit review and approval.

Since this segment of Copans Road is maintained by Broward County, a “Trafficway Beautification” agreement between the City and the County is required prior to issuance of a permit.  At the February 17, 2016 City Commission meeting, the City agreed to beautify the median and take over the maintenance responsibility from the County.  This agreement was subsequently approved by the Broward County Commission on April 26, 2016.

Since the MCRA will be funding the improvements and providing the ongoing maintenance once installed, a separate agreement is required between the MCRA and the City delegating the responsibility of the Copans Road landscape median improvements to the MCRA.  Once the permit is approved, the MCRA will move forward on bidding the project for construction.

RECOMMENDATION:  Approve the Agreement between the City of Margate and the MCRA delegating the installation and maintenance of the Copans Road median improvements to the MCRA.

FISCAL IMPACT: Funding is allocated in 340-0510-512.68-26 Copans Road Landscaping.
