APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH REAL TREE TRIMMING & LANDSCAPING, INC., FOR THE REMOVAL OF EXOTIC TREES AND SHRUBS ON CITY CENTER SITE

BACKGROUND: As the CRA prepares to move forward with the development of the City Center and associated civic facilities such as the proposed Community Center, an appropriate initial step is the clearing and removal of exotic vegetation (Australian Pines and Brazilian Pepper) from the future site of these facilities. Among the reasons for this is to enable access for an updated survey of the property.
In order to determine the cost of this work, the CRA requested and received price quotes from three qualified contractors:
Phil's Expert Tree Service, Inc. $95,000.00
Real Tree Trimming & Landscaping, Inc. $47,200.00
Willie Townsend, Inc. $92,500.00
CRA Procurement policy requires 3 formal written quotes for projects less than $50,000 and a formal bid process if the contract amount exceeds $50,000. Based on this policy, and upon confirmation from legal counsel, it is recommended that an agreement be awarded to Real Tree Trimming & Landscaping, Inc. as the lowest priced quote among three formal written quotes. Staff verified Real Tree's references, which included the City of Boca Raton Parks & Recreation Department, and found them to be very satisfactory.
The work under this agreement includes the cutting and removal of the trees, including tree stumps to 12" below grade, with all debris is to be disposed of off-site. The agreement requires that the work be completed within thirty (30) days of commencement.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Agreement with Real Tree Trimming and Landscaping, Inc. for the removal of exotic trees and shrubs along the eastern border of the City Center site.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding is available in Project Account #340-0510-512-68.98, Waterfront Park & Amphitheater.
