Title

APPROVING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK AND THE CITY OF MARGATE PROVIDING FOR DELIVERY OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES.

Body

BACKGROUND:                                             The City of Margate has provided emergency medical and fire protection services to the City of Coconut Creek since December 1, 1999. On November 3, 2010, the City of Margate and the City of Coconut Creek entered into a four-year Interlocal Agreement. This Interlocal Agreement was subsequently approved for two one (1) year extensions. The latter of which, approved on September 16, 2015, is set to expire on September 30, 2016. The term of the proposed Interlocal Agreement would be for three (3) years, from October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2019, with two (2) one-year renewal options. Some components of the Interlocal Agreement include:

Margate and Coconut Creek will, at a shared cost, retain an independent consultant (Section 4.4).

Margate will provide a fire or EMS unit for ten (10) Coconut Creek sponsored events. This is an increase from five (5) Coconut Creek sponsored events in the prior agreement (Section 10.6).

RECOMMENDATION:                     Approve.

FISCAL IMPACT:                     The City of Margate will budget to receive $8,500,000 in revenue to the General Fund from the City of Coconut Creek in FY 2017. This is an increase of approximately 4.6% from the amount budgeted in FY 2016 ($8,123,500).
