SPECIAL EVENTS FUNDING/DONATION REQUEST FROM JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF SOUTH FLORIDA IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000.

BACKGROUND: Junior Achievement of South Florida has requested funding in the amount of $1,000 through the Special Events Funding/Donation Request Program. The Special Events Funding/Donation Request Program is open to organizations and individuals seeking funding from the City of Margate to provide for a public purpose as determined by the City Commission. The amount requested cannot exceed $1,000 per organization or individual. Junior Achievement of South Florida has met the requirements including being a non-profit organization in existence for at least twelve (12) months, including a copy of their 501(c)3 notification letter, and providing Staff a copy of their Form 990, a copy of their last audit, and a copy of their annual budget.

Junior Achievement of South Florida requests $1,000 to help cover the cost of 123 students from Atlantic West Elementary School to attend the Junior Achievement BizTown Experience. The curriculum leads students through the study of business principles, career exploration, banking procedures, business decisions, and economic terms. It also includes a job interview process. This one-day simulation at the Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA World) facility in Coconut Creek is scheduled for December 22, 2016.

The Junior Achievement BizTown Experience costs approximately $85 per student. This includes the cost of delivering classroom curriculum and providing a real life simulation experience. The Broward County School Board recently approved cash funding to Junior Achievement of South Florida of approximately $13 per student plus related transportation costs. Junior Achievement of South Florida receives additional contributions from various other sources.
