PZ-03-17 CONSIDERATION OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 FIRE HYDRANTS AND DELETING SECTION 39.4.1 ENFORCEMENT OF FIRE HYDRANT REQUIREMENTS OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
PETITIONER: CITY OF MARGATE, DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENGINEERING
BACKGROUND: The proposed amendments clarify, simplify, consolidate, and update the City’s fire hydrant requirements. A summary of the proposed changes are as follows:
• Adds term definitions
• Consolidates and simplifies the hydrant spacing requirements
• Reduces minimum water main sizes to come in line with common municipal standards (fire flow rates remain the same)
• Removes obsolete zoning designations, terms, and product numbers
• Deletes metric units
• Moves enforcement language from Chapter 39 to Chapter 14 for consolidation purposes
RECOMMENDATION: This item was approved by the Development Review Committee (DRC) on January 10, 2017. A draft copy of the minutes from the January 10, 2017 DRC meeting is attached.
