APPROVAL OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 FIRE HYDRANTS AND DELETING SECTION 39.4.1 ENFORCEMENT OF FIRE HYDRANT REQUIREMENTS OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES.

Body

 

BACKGROUND: The proposed amendments clarify, simplify, consolidate, and update the City’s fire hydrant requirements. A summary of the proposed changes are as follows:

                     Adds term definitions

                     Consolidates and simplifies the hydrant spacing requirements

                     Reduces minimum water main sizes to come in line with common municipal standards (fire flow rates remain the same)

                     Removes obsolete zoning designations, terms, and product numbers

                     Deletes metric units

                     Moves enforcement language from Chapter 39 to Chapter 14 for consolidation purposes

 

RECOMMENDATION: This item was before the Development Review Committee (DRC) on January 10, 2017. A copy of the minutes from the January 10, 2017 DRC meeting is attached. The proposed ordinance was approved by the Planning and Zoning Board on February 7, 2017 with a 3-0 vote. A draft copy of the minutes from the Planning and Zoning Board meeting is also attached.
