Title
RESOLUTION - AUTHORIZATION TO SUBMIT A 2017 FLORIDA BOATING IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATION.
BACKGROUND: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission offers the Florida Boating Improvement Program (FBIP). This grant program provides financial assistance for projects designed to serve the needs of boaters and boating-related activities on coastal and inland waters within the State of Florida. Based on the application parameters, City staff is seeking authorization to apply for a $100,000 grant to assist with the production and delivery of educational resources (including but not limited to printed brochures, flyers, and maps) to improve boater safety and environmental education. This project may possibly include the development of a mobile app that the public can download and use for navigation while recreating in the Margate waterways. The grant is a 95% reimbursable grant. This means that, if approved, the City will be reimbursed $95,000 of the $100,000 total project cost.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total project cost is $100,000. If approved, the City will be reimbursed $95,000. As a result, the total City match would be $5,000. Funding is available within the Parks and Recreation budget for the City’s match.
