PZ-12-17 CONSIDERATION OF AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE UPDATED REGULATIONS FOR WALKWAY CAFES
PETITIONER: CITY OF MARGATE, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
BACKGROUND:
Currently, walkway cafés less than 400 square feet in area are permitted as of right as an accessory use to a restaurant. Walkway cafés 400 square feet or larger are special exception uses, requiring City Commission approval. This ordinance proposes to increase the threshold for walkway cafes as permitted uses from 400 square feet to 1,000 square feet. As such, a walkway café less than 1,000 square feet will be permitted as of right and those 1,000 square feet of large will require special exception approval from the City Commission. Furthermore, this ordinance proposes to permit televisions and outdoor music in the walkway café dining areas, and to eliminate the prohibition on pass thru and walk up windows.
RECOMMENDATION: This item was approved by the Development Review Committee (DRC) on May 9, 2017. A draft copy of the meeting minutes is attached.
