Title

APPROVAL OF AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE A 4-MONTH EXTENSION FOR MORATORIUM FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES.

Body

BACKGROUND:                     The City of Margate has had an active moratorium on marijuana dispensaries since November 2, 2016.  During this time, the State Legislature was crafting state level regulations for this new use.  The State approved Senate Bill 8A on June 23, 2017.  This bill preempts local governments, and provides specific limitations for how medical marijuana dispensaries are regulated.   The current moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries is due to expire November 17, 2017.  The City Commission provided policy direction at the November 1, 2017 meeting, but now those new policies need time to complete the ordinance adoption procedures.
