Title

PARKS AND RECREATION BOND REFERENDUM.

Body

BACKGROUND:                                          In 2016, the City Commission approved the Parks and Recreation Master Plan which recommends future park improvements.  This agenda item is for discussion by the City Commission as to whether they wish to direct Staff to initiate research into the use of a bond for parks and recreation projects.

The amount of the bond would depend on which projects the City Commission would like to try and undertake with bond funds. Staff recommends that selection of projects by the City Commission be conducted at a subsequent Commission workshop. If the Commission directs staff to proceed with initial research toward a parks bond referendum, this item would be brought back to the City Commission with updated project price estimates, along with the Referendum Ordinance and ballot language, for their consideration in placing a bond referendum ballot question, regarding parks and recreation projects, on the November 6, 2018 election.

RECOMMENDATION:                     For discussion and possible action.

FISCAL IMPACT:                     None at this time.
