Title
ATLANTIC BOULEVARD MEDIAN IMPROVEMENTS PRESENTATION
BACKGROUND: In October 2017, Keith & Associates was authorized to begin conceptual design development for improvements on the Atlantic Blvd medians, from SR 7 west to the City limits. The three primary elements for this design were initially identified as (1) upgrade and beautify the landscaping of the median; (2) modify the source of irrigation water from wells to canal to reduce staining; and (3) investigate potential methods to improve pedestrian safety around Margate Middle School. As this work progresses, there may be opportunities to incorporate additional features that strengthen the branding and identification of the City. In particular, design elements can be introduced at gateways and other key locations that can differentiate Margate and create distinct features unique to the City. This process can begin to identify and explore these opportunities, together with input and ideas from the Board. After receiving Board input, the next step will be to translate the concepts and favored elements into a set of refined design drawings and specifications.
RECOMMENDATION: For discussion and input.
FISCAL IMPACT: Available funding in the FY 2018 budget for this project is $895,450. (Account # 340-0510-512.69-07).
