Title

AUTHORIZING THE RECLASSIFICATION OF THE TRAINING (RESCUE  LIEUTENANT) POSITION TO TRAINING (CAPTAIN) POSITION WITHIN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING FOR EFFECTIVE DATE.

Body

BACKGROUND:                     Training Officer Lieutenant Robert Ramirez recently requested to go back on shift to fill an open Lieutenant position. Captain Carlos Pumariega, one of only two qualified persons to fill the position, was temporarily assigned as Training Officer. There is now an open Captain position on shift and the budget does not allow for the position to be filled.  The total number of Captains will increase from 18 to 19 and the total number of Lieutenants will decrease from 19 to 18.

RECOMMENDATION:                     Approve.

FISCAL IMPACT:                     There will be an approximate increase of $5,800. This is the difference between the salary of a lieutenant and captain.
