CONSIDERATION OF A TEMPORARY USE PERMIT (TUP), TO ALLOW A BRAZILIAN FESTIVAL AT ST. VINCENT CATHOLIC CHURCH 6350 NW 18TH STREET, FROM JUNE 9 - JUNE 10, 2018.
BACKGROUND: The St. Vincent Catholic Church is seeking permission to permit a Brazilian Festival at 6350 NW 18th Street. Event dates would range from June 9 - 10, 2018, event set-up and take down would take place 3 days prior and 3 days after the event. Code requires promotional events for community facilities which anticipate having 500 or more attendees to be scheduled for review by the City Commission. The application indicated an estimated attendance of 3,500. Applicant is also seeking permission to operate the festival until 11 P.M.; Code requires events to close by 10 P.M. unless otherwise approved by City Commission.
Applicant has held an outdoor Brazilian Festival at this location since 2010. Prior events were approved through the DRC process. The TUP process now requires City Commission approval for an event of this nature.
Staff has been contacted by Margate Elementary by phone in order to advise staff that the school allows the church to utilize their parking lot for overflow parking for events such as this.
Staff confirmed with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations that this event is exempt from obtaining a Temporary Event License for food service.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff comments are attached to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT: The application fee was waived for this event because the St. Vincent Catholic Church is a non-profit organization.
