Title
APPROVING THE RECLASSIFICATION OF ONE (1) EXISTING VACANT MECHANIC III POSITION TO A MECHANIC II POSITION IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT.
BACKGROUND: A Mechanic III is responsible to repairing and maintaining all of the City’s heavy equipment including all of the Fire Trucks. The Fire Trucks are now being serviced and repaired by an outside contractor because it is very time sensitive to have a fire truck down for any length of time and as the City added more vehicles and equipment to the fleet the number of mechanics the city has could not handle the additional work.
The Public Works Department is requesting to have one (1) of the Mechanic III positions lowered to a Mechanic II position to be able to assist with the mid-range equipment and repairs. Also, the requirements of a Mechanic II are not as strict as a Mechanic III and the hiring process should be quicker.
RECOMMENDATION: Mayor and Commission Approval
FISCAL IMPACT: No impact in the FY 2019 budget due to vacant positions.
