Title

AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH ZAMBELLI FIREWORKS MANUFACTURING COMPANY FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS DISPLAY

Body

BACKGROUND:                     The City of Margate will host the annual July 4th event which is sponsored in part by the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency and administered by the Parks and Recreation Department.

The outline of the activities follows what had been done last year and is as follows:

9:00am - 11:30am - July 4th Parade

11:30am - 1:00pm - Hot dogs, chips and refreshments will be served immediately following the parade at the lot adjacent to City Hall

1:00pm - 5:00pm - Pool party at Calypso Cove Aquatic Facility

5:00pm - 9:00pm - Margate Boulevard - live band, bounce houses, and food trucks. (Margate Boulevard eastbound lanes will be closed from 9:00am -11:00am during the parade. It will be closed from the clock tower to State Road 7 from 9:00am - 11:00pm.)

9:00pm - Fireworks (State Road 7 will be shut down at approximately 7:30pm between Coconut Creek Parkway and Atlantic Boulevard; it will reopen after the fireworks display.)

Parks and Recreation contacted the vendor, Zambelli, about improving the quality of the fireworks display and Zambelli agreed to include additional fireworks during the 20-minute display for an additional cost of $5,000.

RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the agreement with Zambelli to provide the fireworks display on July 4th.

FISCAL IMPACT: Parks and Recreation estimates that the MCRA’s total cost for the July 4th event would be $50,500 of which $31,500 would be for the fireworks display. MCRA funding of $45,000 has been allocated in account #140-0510-512.30-24 for the July 4th event. If approved, the MCRA will need to request a Budget Transfer of $5,500 from Contingency to fund the event.
