APPROVING COMMENCEMENT OF THE PARKS BOND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT - SPORTS FIELD LIGHTING RETROFIT AT THE MARGATE SPORTS COMPLEX, AND SOUTHEAST PARK PER BOND PRIORITY PROJECTS LIST, AT A COST NOT TO EXCEED $625,000; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND: This project was prioritized by the City Commission as a FY 2020 Parks Bond Capital Improvement Project to convert existing sports field lighting systems from Metal Halide to Light Emitting Diode (LED). The two (2) locations will be managed as one large project. The procurement, design, permitting, and installation of this project will be turnkey from the lighting manufacturer. This project includes a ten (10) year parts and labor warranty.
The City of Margate's Parks and Recreation Department has researched all options for LED Sports Lighting Retrofit, and recommend that we install Musco Sports Lighting, LLC materials. Musco is a proven leader in the industry, and their product has a very high satisfaction standing with the majority of similar municipal complexes in Broward County. The lighting system will allow the Parks and Recreation Department to program the sports lighting at these two (2) locations through the Musco control link technology. This will allow the City to maximize the field light schedule to allow for minimal use of kilowatt hours and reduced FPL fees, based on operational needs.
At the completion of this project, our Margate residents and guests will experience an immediate increase in photometric light levels, allowing for safer recreational use while at our sports facilities. A guaranteed light level for ten (10) years. Lights will be instant on technology which removes the current twenty-minute delay of our existing light fixtures to warm up and meet proper light levels.
