RESOLUTION - RELATING TO THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING REGARDING COLLABORATIVE STUDY AND SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTEGRATED SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING SYSTEM; APPOINTING REPRESENTATIVES TO REPRESENT THE CITY OF MARGATE IN MATTERS RELATING TO THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING; PROVIDING DIRECTION ON REPRESENTATION ON THE TECHNICAL GROUP OF THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND:                                           This Resolution is to appoint the City Commissioners to represent the City of Margate, in matters relating to the Memorandum of Understanding Regarding Collaborative Study and Subsequent Development of an Integrated Solid Waste Recycling System (MOU). These representatives will be tasked to work with other Broward County elected officials to determine the size and composition of the Working Group and review additional issues under the MOU.

 

This resolution also provides for appointment of a municipal representative to the MOU Technical Group, which is comprised of staff-level persons who will review issues and make recommendations to the Working Group.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:                     For the City Commission to confirm the appointment of Mayor Anthony Caggiano as the City’s primary representative and Commissioner Joanne Simone as the City’s Alternate Representative, based upon the consensus provided at the October 16, 2019 City Commission meeting. Further, for the City Commission to appoint Aaron Tauber, Sustainability Coordinator, as the City’s staff-level municipal representative to the MOU Technical Group.
