Body

BACKGROUND:  At the August 28, 2019 meeting of the City Commission, they directed the staff to prepare an ordinance amending the City Code regulating window signs to reduce the permitted area covered from 50% to 25% and allow perforated signs. Attached is a proposed ordinance accomplishing those changes.

This ordinance takes effect six (6) months after adoption. During that period, the staff will not enforce the prohibition of perforated signs during this period. In addition, the staff will implement a public information program immediately consisting of notice on the City’s website, notices on the City’s social media platforms, mailed notices to the business based on the Local Business Tax Receipt (LBTR) records who are located in commercial areas, and hand distribution of public information pamphlets to commercial area businesses.

RECOMMENDATION:  The Planning and Zoning Board recommended rejection of the proposed ordinance. The staff recommends approval of the attached ordinance.
