BACKGROUND:

The Parks and Recreation Department over the past two (2) years has determined that the minimum requirements for the current job description for Service Worker I no longer aligns with the true work of the position within the Parks and Recreation Department. When reviewing applications during the hiring process we have found that the majority of the applicants, although qualified for the position did not possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License. The requirement for this CDL is still required with all other job descriptions within the department and all job assignments that require a CDL license will be assigned accordingly. In lieu of the currently required CDL, the new job description of Maintenance Worker I will require additional certifications within the field of parks maintenance which includes but not limited to Tree Trimming certification, and Green Industries Best Management Practices.

The job description for the new position of Maintenance Worker I has been reviewed and approved by the Civil Service Board, and a memorandum of understanding has been signed by the Federation of Public Employees. The job description will be updated in the adopted FY2020 budget amendment.
