Title
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA, OPPOSING SENATE BILL 1174, RELATING TO LOCAL COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES TAX RATES; PROVIDING FOR EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND: Senate Bill 1174 amends the definition of “video service” to include streaming and similar services and reduces the Communication Services Tax (CST) rate on the retail sale of communications services. The bill provides for a uniform rates system with one tax rate for municipalities and charter counties and a second tax rate for noncharter counties. The bill also repeals the local option sales surtax conversion that is levied on communication services.
RECOMMENDATION: For approval.
FISCAL IMPACT: It is anticipated to have an impact of reducing revenue by $190 million each year for state and local governments.
