DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION - JULY 4TH EVENT

Body

BACKGROUND:                     The City of Margate’s 4th of July events typically include a parade in the morning, followed by a BBQ at City Hall, a pool party at Calypso Cove, food trucks, music, dancing, and a spectacular fireworks show to close out the night. The day long events attract around 15,000 people.

Due to COVID-19 we will not be able to carry out the typical Margate 4th of July. Many of the Broward cities that have 4th of July events have canceled their activities with only a few making modifications to their events such as having fireworks with no attendees (live streaming). I’ve attached a survey of cities and their 4th of July plans for this year.

RECOMMENDATION:                     Cancel City of Margate Events for 4th of July

FISCAL IMPACT:                     Approximately $70,000 combined cost including the CRA sponsorship
