Title

REVIEW OF MARGATE 2.0 FUTURE LAND USE AMENDMENT DOCUMENTATION

Body

BACKGROUND:  The Margate 2.0 Comp Plan Amendment is the City’s updated, 20-year guide to managing city-wide future growth and economic development.  The Plan assures that we will continue to provide a full array of municipal public services while maintaining our unique, hometown atmosphere.  A welcoming place to live and work that values its residents and takes pride in providing them with SUPERB PUBLIC SERVICES with emphasis on RECREATION, IMPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE, and city-wide BEAUTIFICATION.

Margate 2.0 highlights the strengthening or creation of DISTINCT DESTINATIONS that draw from the culturally diverse adjoining neighborhoods and businesses to provide entertainment, recreation, services, and community gathering places.  Margate destinations should be aesthetically pleasing, attractively landscaped and provide retail and social experiences in coordinated public spaces for all to enjoy.

The Margate 2.0 Plan Amendment accomplishes several key tasks including:

Replacing all Transit Oriented Corridor (TOC) Land Uses with Activity Center

Updating the Definitions, Goals, Objectives and Policies to align with Broward County Plans

Updating the Data, Inventory, and Analysis Component including demographics (Volume II)

Establishing Policies for Commercial Recreation, Golf Course Reuse, and Dash-line Areas

Comply with current Florida SS, Chapter 163 requirements

Attached is all supporting documentation required to permit the Amendment to proceed with P&Z Board review and making a recommendation to City Commission.

RECOMMENDATION:  Staff recommends that the Planning and Zoning Board, sitting as the Local Planning Agency, approve and forward the Amendment to the City Commission for their further review and consideration.
