A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARGATE, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A CHANGE ORDER FOR PARK IMPROVEMENTS AT SOUTHGATE PARK (RFP NO. 2019-008), IN THE AMOUNT OF $58,161 FOR ADDITIONAL PROJECT RELATED SERVICES AND DELIVERABLES IN EXCESS OF THOSE PREVIOUSLY APPROVED UNDER CITY RESOLUTION 19-089, WHICH AWARDED THE PROJECT TO D.W. RECREATION, INC. IN THE INITIAL AMOUNT OF $696,868; APPROVING A NEW PROJECT TOTAL NOT TO EXCEED $755,029; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BACKGROUND: On August 21, 2019 the City awarded RFP No. 2019-008 - Park Improvements - Southgate Park to D.W. Recreation Services, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $696,868 by Resolution 19-089. Subsequent to that award and during the ensuing construction phase, a detailed inspection of the basketball court area was conducted by a subcontractor being engaged to resurface the court. At that time, it was determined that without comprehensive stabilization of the court's subsurface, any top resurfacing would deteriorate and show unsightly cracking within a relatively short period of time. Staff has therefore determined that it is best to completely remove and properly replace the basketball court surface area at an additional cost of $36,496. Additionally, staff is seeking authorization to expend additional funds for additional sod and irrigation in the amount of $14,565; the supply and installation of a new door for the irrigation pump house which will be mounted on the existing door frame at a cost of $2,600; as well as $4,500 in additional funds for the cost of a directional bore beneath the roadway which is needed for a new water meter setting. Cumulatively, all recommended changes are $58,161. If approved, this would bring the total project costs up to $755,029.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve change order
FISCAL IMPACT: $58,161 which will be funded by a budget transfer from the Capital Projects Fun...
