Title
REINSTATING THE MCRA’S COMMERCIAL FAÇADE IMPROVEMENT GUIDELINES FOR THE COMMERCIAL FAÇADE IMPROVEMENT MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM
BACKGROUND: The Board approved a moratorium on the acceptance of new applications to all grant programs under Discussion and Possible Action at the MCRA meeting on August 20, 2019. Executive Director Jeff Oris recommended an evaluation of the grant programs in place at that time and the incorporation of design guidelines to supplement the new programs moving forward.
At the MCRA meeting on December 10, 2019, Mr. Oris presented a revised Commercial Façade Improvement Matching Grant program which the Board approval via resolution 617 (copy attached). The program would incorporate the design guidelines once they were finalized and adopted.
At the next MCRA meeting on January 15, 2020, the Board formalized the August moratorium via resolution 627 which directed staff to discontinue acceptance of new applications for all grant programs approved prior to December 1, 2019. For clarification purposes, the Façade grant program approved December 10, 2019 was available but not released pending finalization of the design guidelines.
Based on direction provided at the MCRA meeting on April 14, 2020, the façade improvement guidelines were amended to provide for properties with 120 feet or more of frontage and are attached for Board review and approval.
