Title
RESOLUTION - APPROVING WORKER'S COMPENSATION WASHOUT SETTLEMENT WITH ANDREW ARMENIS IN THE AMOUNT OF $220,000 WITHOUT ADMISSION OF COMPENSABILITY; PROVIDING FOR RETIREE HEALTH INSURANCE; PROVIDING FOR RESOLUTION OF ALL PAST AND FUTURE MEDICAL AND INDEMNITY BENEFITS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND: Mr. Andrew Armenis became a City of Margate fire department employee on October 2, 2000 and retired from his position as Fire Captain on March 23, 2017. The above settlement of $220,000, including attorney’s fees and costs, and providing for enrollment in the City’s retiree health insurance system, for two separate worker’s compensation claims, was negotiated with the employee, Risk Manager and Third Party Administrator, and it is found to be in the best interest of the City and the retiree. Confidential medical information is contained in relevant documentation. For this reason, there are no attachments other than the Resolution. The settlement is proposed in order to satisfy the known liability and reduce the potential for future liabilities. This settlement is presented to the City Commission pursuant to Section 2-38 of the Margate Code of Ordinances.
RECOMMENDATION: For approval.
